Dr. Francesco Sciortino

Francesco is a co-founder and CEO of Proxima Fusion, a spin-out of the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, founded in 2023 and based in Munich. Francesco’s research brought him through Imperial College, EPFL, Princeton and MIT, where he completed his PhD on fusion energy. After returning to Europe, he found inspiration in the W7-X stellarator in Germany and joined forces with his co-founders. Proxima is now working to develop QI stellarators to bring fusion to energy markets.
